Likely Eating

How exciting it is to be writing my first blog about “Likely Eating”.  In this blog, I want to explain the idea behind likely eating and how it can benefit your life.  Let’s head in!

I once spent a whole Summer when I was twelve as a vegetarian.  For some odd reason, I started having disturbing dreams about slaughter houses.  The dreams, night after night, would get more graphic.  I would see the butcher separating the cuts (and previous to that, but too graphic to relive) and handed straight to me on a bun.  It was just weird and creeped me out!  I remember telling my dad, so proudly, that I was now a vegetarian.  The news didn’t exactly make him proud.  My dad is an old school proud Italian man. He actually responded, “What Italian do you know that doesn’t eat meat?”  By the time August rolled around and I went back to school, I was back to eating chicken nuggets and pepperoni pizza.

I took a Health class in high school and had an amazing teacher!  I love teachers that are so passionate about their subject that they are able to deliver the information in such a fun a memorable way.  He taught us primarily on how food affects the body.  I had the same experience in college, when my major was Biology.  Again, the fact both of these teachers were lecturing about food in the body intrigued me.  However, I wanted to rewind from there.  That’s when I changed my major to Dietetics.

I remember seeing graphics for the first time of a chicken coop.  It was beyond disturbing.  Chickens pecking around other chickens while piled on top of one another (literally!).  Some chickens trampled to death, but left for other chickens to step on.  It was common for chickens to also lose life to diseases and illnesses mostly from wallowing around in their own filth and feces.

Super disturbing videos, trust me. I almost became a vegetarian again, but realized there was another option. All I needed to do was educate myself on how to make smarter choices and this is now what I have to offer to you. I want to bring to you the life of the egg before it hits the stores near you and help you understand what you are most ‘Likely Eating’.
